COURSE DETAILS

INTRODUCTION

 

The placement of this subject is in 3RD year, semester-V of BS-DCP (Dental Hygiene) The purpose of this course is to enhance knowledge and understanding of students about management of basic operative dentistry procedure and enlighten them on how to effectively promote patients instruct  proper diet counseling and post-operative instruction and care.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

By the end of this course. Students will be able

1.      Understand patients History, Examination and diagnosis related to restorative dentistry.

2.      Proper Record making for dental charting

3.      Identify the management of  caries tooth

4.      Acknowledgement of basic sterilization &role of aseptic environment.

5.      Student will be able to the end of session patients instruct Post-Operative care after restoration.

6.      Student will be able to the end of session patients instruct diet counseling after restorative procedure.

7.      Describe the technique of adhesion and fissure sealant application.

8.      Describe the purpose for restorative materials & demonstrate their proper usage.

9.      To understand restorative material mixing(GIC & AMALGAM)

10.  At the end of the session the student will be able to understand the types of restorative material.

11.  Understand the basic and advance concepts of (intraoral X-ray taking techniques)

Students who have cleared/ passed their previous semester, which is semester-VI in this case.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS, RULES & REGULATIONS

 

Following are the expectations from the student attending the course:

Students attending this course synchronized with official ZOOM® on-line teaching account must have adequate IT resources at home with better and undisturbed internet connectivity.

50% students’ attendance of online synchronized classes must be considered mandatory.

However, the recorded course along with lecture hand-outs will be available on the DOES Learning Management System (LMS) in a-synchronized form, so that those students who may face some internet connectivity issues during on-line synchronized teaching may not suffer and face the consequences of short of attendance.

Students attending synchronized lectures and taking assessments before closing data shall also be counted in the attendance

100% students’ participation will be considered in different discussion forums, chats, quizzes, class tests, project and assignments before their closing dates as part of internal evaluation.

However, students must gain at least an average score of 50% of the total formative assessment (internal evaluation= including participation in discussion forums, quizzes, class assessments, assignments and mid-term examination) to be eligible to sit for final examination

Mode of delivery Each session will be Lecture based (30-40 min) followed by pictorial/ Virtual understanding of the terminologies through open discussion forums and chats related to their implications towards applications. Discussion forums will be open every fortnight and will remain open for 2 weeks. The lectures will be reinforced with Hands-on Practical demonstrations (40-60 min) and either lab-based face-to-face exercises (wherever applicable) or else utilizing online teaching technology/ resources.

ASSESSMENT/GRADING POLICY

 

Following is the detail of assessment criteria in the course, e.g. assignments, quizzes during the online teaching sessions, end-of-course exam, etc. and their weightage. It also contains how the students will be graded for different components of assessment, assessment methods that will be used during the course, e.g. Essay writing, MCQs, Short questions, etc.

Formative Assessment on LMS must be graded and be assigned 60% weightage of the Summative Assessment, whereas 40% may be assigned to the Final Examination conducted on LMS in the form of BCQs based Theory and online Viva based examination.

In order to provide flexibility to the students, they may be given options of two attempts to finish graded quizzes.

However, mid-term and class test must be taken as single attempt

Theory based final examination questions (to assess knowledge) will be prepared and peer reviewed by two at least examiners (internal and external)

Structured Viva of final examination (to assess attitude) will be conducted by two examiners (Internal & External)

Regarding Grading Policy, it is proposed that student may be considered PASS or FAIL on the basis of 50% cut-off of the total marks scored.

INTRODUCTION:

This course is conducted in the third year of BS Dental Technology program in semester V. The purpose of this course is to provide education and training and familiarize students with enhanced orthodontics knowledge critical to laboratorial procedures. The objectives and outcomes of this course are defined and duly aligned with the overall program, mission and vision of the University..

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course student will be able to:
1.Identify the indication and contraindication of orthodontic treatment.
2.Understand the role of tooth movement and mechanics with relation to orthodontic appliance.
3.Assimilate the techniques of soldering, welding and appliance fabrication.
4.Comprehend the role of functional appliance in growth modification.
5.Perform basic lab procedures such as the construction of acrylic plate and orthodontic study model.
6.Understand the purpose of retention and relapse in orthodontic treatment.
7.Fabricate Hawley’s retainer.
